THE TELEVISION CRITICS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES WENDI McLENDON-COVEY AS HOST OF THE 40th ANNUAL TCA AWARDS
LOS ANGELES – June X, 2024 –The Television Critics Association (TCA) announced that St. Denis Medical star Wendi McLendon-Covey has been named the host for its landmark 40TH annual TCA Awards. McLendon-Covey will preside over the TCA’s first in-person event in five years—taking place on Friday, July 12, at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena.
The event highlights the best programs and performances from the 2023-2024 television season, as voted on by the TCA’s membership of more than 230 professional journalists covering television. The TCA presents awards in 14 categories honoring outstanding achievements inDrama, Comedy, Miniseries, Children’s, Family, News and Information, Reality, and Variety, Sketch or Talk Shows, among others.
As part of her hosting duties, McLendon-Covey will open the night’s festivities before handing over the reins to the critics, who will announce the event’s winners. An accomplished actress, comedian, and producer, McLendon-Covey is best known for her portrayal as beloved matriarch Beverly Goldberg on the acclaimed ABC sitcom The Goldbergs, which wrapped an impressive 10-season run in 2023. Up next, she stars alongside David Alan Grier and Allison Tolman in the NBC workplace comedy St. Denis Medical, slated to premiere later this year.
McLendon-Covey’s expansive resumé includes her definitive turn as Deputy Clementine Johnson in the enduring mockumentary franchise Reno 911! and appearances in hit series and blockbuster films. Her television career also boasts unforgettable appearances on “The Office,” “Modern Family,” “Rules Of Engagement,” and Netflix’s “Unstable”; while her big screen credits include studio vehicles such as the box office smash Bridesmaids with Kristen Wiig and Blended with Adam Sandler, and independent and festival offerings including Hello, My Name Is Doris, Blush, and Paint with Owen Wilson.
In addition to her diverse live-action roles, McLendon-Covey has established herself as a rising star in the world of animation throughout the years. Her vocal talents are currently featured on Grimsburg and Big City Greens, as well as Big City City Greens: The Movie Spacecation, which premieres on the Disney Channel and Disney+ this month. She can also be heard in popular series such as Bob’s Burgers, M.O.D.O.K. and Solar Opposites, and voicing ‘Gale’ in the Oscar®-nominated Disney Pixar hit Elemental.

McLendon-Covey joins an all-star roster of past TCA Awards hosts, which includes Desus & Mero, Robin Thede, Kristin Chenoweth, James Corden, Terry Crews, Bryan Cranston, Ellen DeGeneres, Conan O’Brien, Drew Carey, Craig Ferguson, Wanda Sykes, the Smothers Brothers, Nick Offerman, Key & Peele, and Bob Newhart.
