NBC Triumphs At TCA Awards

JULY 21, 2007, LOS ANGELES – Members of the Television Critics Association bestowed four TCA Awards on NBC tonight, including Outstanding Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, Individual Achievement in Comedy and Outstanding New Program of the Year.

In a ceremony introduced by John Oliver from Comedy Central’s hit series “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” NBC was the top trophy earner. HBO and The Discovery Channel came away with two awards per network; Showtime and ABC Family received one award each.

NBC newcomer “Friday Night Lights” won Outstanding New Program and its series “The Office” was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Comedy for the second year in a row. The HBO series “The Sopranos” was honored for Outstanding Achievement in Drama for its final season and NBC’s “Heroes” received a trophy for Program of the Year. In the Individual Achievement Categories, Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”) won for drama, and Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”) won for comedy.

Discovery’s “Planet Earth” received two awards in the categories of Outstanding Achievement in News & Information and Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Mini-series and Specials.

HBO’s “The Sopranos” also received the Heritage Award, which recognizes a long-standing program that has had a lasting cultural or social impact. Mary Tyler Moore received TCA’s 2007 coveted award for Career Achievement.

ABC Family’s popular series “Kyle XY” took home a trophy for Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming.

Among those on hand at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to accept were Alec Baldwin, Brian Baumgartner, Lorraine Bracco, Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, David Chase, Jack Coleman, Edie Falco, Michael C. Hall, Mindy Kaling, Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.

2007 TCA Award recipients are as follows:

The 23rd annual TCA Awards were held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Founded in 1978, the Television Critics Association is composed of more than 200 reporters and columnists in print media from the United States and Canada.
